Subject: Large custom built 1980’s ranch overlooking acres of rolling horse pastures.

Storyline: During the day, our client is a husband and wife team with a professional practice in town. At night they like to spend quality time ‘in the country’ honing their culinary skills together.

Challenge: Their home was a conundrum of the 1980’s …. dark kitchen reminiscent of the mid-1980’s with elements of the contemporary late 1980’s. The kitchen was dysfunctional and drab. “… prior to working with Terry and Joel, other Designers would only recommended replacing the cabinets we have with new ones …”

Solution: We began the project with a clean slate. We removed the soffits, relocated several door openings and prepared for professional grade appliances. For storage we raised the wall cabinets to the ceiling, provided a built in pantry with 100 pound capacity interior drawers, and included many large base drawer cabinets. We accomplished our goal of providing a working kitchen for two.

Storyline: The client initially wanted a new home but found their current home nicer and better built then anything they saw, in addition, they loved their current neighbors.

Challenge: The home was “1970’s dark” with many small, chopped up rooms. The husband thought the kitchen should be light and the wife thought dark. The client visited a plethora of Kitchen Designers and Builders … all of whom proposed essentially the same lackluster plan of reusing the space the way it was presented to them.

Solution: We started by removing some of the multiple entry/egress points to the kitchen . We opened up the wall separating the kitchen and family room to make the room larger, enhance traffic flow, and allow more natural light to enter. We opened up a hallway doorway leading to the kitchen and turned it into a fabulous butler’s pantry for storage and serving. Finally, we restored “marital bliss” by combining a paprika cherry perimeter and a crème & chocolate glaze, cheese clothed island.
